What is SaySo

What is SaySo about?
SaySo, previously known as Truvo.ie, is a (local review) site that helps you discover (new) places and services in your area that people like/love. You can exchange your experiences (by reviewing, commenting, sharing) with others, and meet people who love the same things you do, whether they live around the corner or across the country.

return to top

Why should I use SaySo?
SaySo is a review site in which most of the content is provided by the community, so it is coming from real users just like you. Everyone can use the site: from locals sharing their knowledge of their area and maybe discovering new places to people who have just moved into a new area and want to find out the best places in town.

return to top

Will I have to pay anything to use SaySo?
No, this site is a completely free for our users/the consumer.

return to top

In which countries can I find SaySo?
SaySo currently has data for the following countries: Belgium, Ireland and Portugal.

return to top

Why did Truvo change to SaySo and how does this effects me?
Since we went live in June 2009 (under the name Truvo.ie), we've tried our best to create a vibrant community around local stuff. After a rebranding and redesign we turned the site into SaySo. In the same time, during the name change, the use of the Obi character is dropped. Of course, you do not lose your contributions if you were already a member before this rebranding. We will still be that same site you love (we hope), but we will differentiate ourselves even more from Golden Pages and the wider Truvo brand.

return to top

How do I get started?
It's almost too easy for words. Just sign up – all you need is your email. Then you're free to explore the site. Check out your favourite places and find other people who love what you love. Once you have signed up to SaySo you can contribute by writing reviews and leaving comments for other users. When you've found your way about, why not make a Mini-Guide or two. Or follow someone who knows what's hot and what's not.

return to top

Can I say anything I want on SaySo?
Pretty much. We want to read your honest opinions so you can say/share pretty much everything you like. But such freedom also calls for a few Mini-Guidelines, because we respect each other at SaySo. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you – i.e. be respectful. Other people's opinions are just as valuable as yours. We are all in this together – that's the beauty of this platform. And remember, reviews, comments and uploads are your responsibility, and they will be seen by others. If in doubt, leave it out.

return to top

Your Account

Why do I need to register/create a profile?
You can browse the site for information without a profile, but to get the most out of SaySo, you really should set up an account. That way, you'll get tips about places and services in your area that truly suit your tastes. Follow other people, and let them take you to their favorite places. And don't forget to share your experiences. We all love to hear about new things! And the more you contribute, the more points you earn.

return to top

How do I verify my account?
After you have signed up, a confirmation email is sent to the email address entered during registration. This email contains a link to a page where you log in for the first time. After confirming your information you are ready to start reviewing.

return to top

What information of mine can other users see?
Your public profile and your contributions (reviews, comment, Mini-Guides, images, ...) can be seen by anyone. It helps you find new places and/or other like-minded reviewers in your area. Still we do not share everything from you on our platform; we don't show your e-mail address to other users.

return to top

I don't want to share my (full) name with everybody?
It is not a required field, since we use user names on this platform. For some users, both will be the same but this doesn't have to be. Feel free to get creative with the user name you choose.

return to top

Can I change my user name?
Yes, you can. Go to 'My Profile' page, to the profile settings section, and choose a new user name. If this new user name contains at least 2 characters and isn't taken by somebody else on the site we will save your new user name and everybody will see you as such.

return to top

How do I modify my profile picture?
Go to 'My Profile' page, click on the change profile picture link and upload a new image. For your profile picture we handle the same Mini-Guideline as for other pictures on the site. You can add any picture, as long as it isn't copyright protected and isn't offensive.

return to top

Why do I need to set my location and how do I do this?
When you register we ask you to set a location. We do this because we are a hyper local review site and want to be able to share relevant info/data with you (places you might find interesting, people nearby you might want to follow, ...). You can easily have a look at the content of another location by selecting a different location in the header or you can change your location (e.g. if you are moved) in the profile settings section on 'My Profile' page.

return to top

How do I change my notification settings?
You can change them on 'My Profile' page. Click on the section Notifications and modify them as you wish.

return to top

How do I change my password and/or e-mail address?
You can change your password and e-mail on the settings page of 'My profile'.

return to top

How do I send a private message to other SaySo users?
How do I delete my account?
From the left navigation on 'My Profile' page, click on "privacy settings". Here a member can deactivate their account by clicking on "Delete My account” and share with us why you want to do this.

Points & Levels

How do I earn points?
Ah, points! They are so good to earn, since a certain amount of points gives you a certain belt and corresponding rights. Each time a registered user performs an action they earns points, the points are added to the users profile and visible for everybody to see. You can:
  • Write a review - 20 pts
  • Create a Mini-Guide (that contains at least 2 listings) - 10 pts
  • Upload a photo or video - 10 pts
  • Gain a follower - 5 pts
  • Share something - 2 pts

return to top

Where can I see my total points?
On the right, just beneath the search box you can find your profile box (when you are logged in). There you can find your total accumulated points.

return to top

What do the different colours mean?
We have five different levels:find a search box at the top of every Truvo page. Just type a key word or a name and the town or city. Click "find it" and your search has begun! If you can't find what you're looking for, maybe it's not in our database yet. Send us an email at with details and we'll look into it. Soon you will be able to add a place if you can't find it, keep an eye out over at our blog for new features being announced.
  • New user: registered user (everyone who signs up)
  • White Belt: when you have done your first action (e.g. written a review, adding a picture, ...) that gives you points in return.
  • Green Belt: when you've earned 400 points and written 10 reviews
  • Blue Belt: when you've earned 2000 points, written 40 reviews, and earned 5 followers
  • Black Belt: when you've earned 4000 points, written 100 reviews and earned 15 followers

return to top

My colour/level is listed incorrectly, what should I do?
Got enough points for a blue Belt, but still have green? Don't obsess about the points, because you've also got to consider how you've earned your points. Belt advancement requires specific numbers of reviews (and review types, like first time) and also follower numbers. So hit that keyboard and start writing now! Good reviews will lead to many followers, but there is no harm to recruiting your 'following' army. See “What do the different colour (Belts) mean?” for more details.

return to top

What has changed about the points compared to Truvo.ie (our previous site)?
Obi is gone with our rebranding, so we no longer talk about blue obis. We kept the color code, but it is called a blue Belt now. We also made some changes related to the points, to make it easier for you. You no longer get 40 points for writing a first review; instead, we give you 20 points for this action. To compensate this, we decided to reward you with 10 points for each Mini-Guide you create. You also get 2 points when you share things with your friends… Easy, no?

return to top

Reviews, Ratings, and Comments

What makes a good review and what is not allowed?
A good review consists of good, honest opinions, personal experiences, nice juicy details, and hot tips. Basically, try to be as informative as you can, and don't afraid to have a bit of fun. That will earn you some thumbs up from others! Being rude and attacking others is not allowed, as we said, have fun with it!

return to top

What can I review on this site?
Anything you want! Restaurants, cafés, shops, doctors, fitness centers, beauticians, pet shops, petrol stations …. As long as it is listed in SaySo, it's yours to review. That is, if you've actually experienced it yourself. We don't want to read anything fake – it just wouldn't be fair. If you want to add something to our listings since you do not find it on our site go the 'add a place section' and follow the steps.

return to top

Can I add a review for any city?
Truvo currently focuses on Belgium, Portugal and Ireland. So you can review anything in places within those countries – even if you live in another country, as long as you have experienced it yourself. The nice part of it is you might meet other people who love what you love, too!

return to top

Why would I “share” my review on Facebook/Twitter(/Netlog)?
You have put so much effort in writing a good review (or added something nice to our site) so why not share it with your friend.

return to top

How can I “like” a review, and why would I do this?
To help people understand what type of reviews are most helpful, informative or fun to read. It's also a show of support, respect, and friendship. Once you've thumbed something you can add a comment, so the reviewer knows why you like or don't like it.

return to top

Can I edit/delete my own review?
You can only delete or edit your own reviews. You find it by going to the original review. Click there on the edit/delete link to the right of the review. You can also go to your public profile and filter your activities on reviews and edit or delete them there. If you see a review that you find disrespectful, click on the 'report content' link or send us an email at right away. But not if you just disagree! After all, everyone is welcome to their own opinions.

return to top

How can I get my review on the “Featured Reviews”?
Start writing good reviews. If you put some effort in it, the SaySo team and users of the platform will like them and we can pick it out to promote for a certain period on the location page that it belongs to.

return to top

How do I find a place to review?
You'll find a search box at the top of every SaySo page. Just type a key word or a name and the town or city. Click “find it,” and your search has begun! If you can't find what you're looking for, maybe it's not in our database yet. In that case, you are able to add the place yourself.

return to top

A listing is incorrect, can I edit it?
If you have added the listing yourself you can edit it (by clicking the edit button on top of that page). If not, you can click on the report content - link or send us an e-mail and share with us what is incorrect.

return to top

What are tags/keywords? How do I use them?
You can compare a tag the best with labeling, meaning you describe something using only a few words. Let us give an example to make it clear. You can add some objective tags to a certain shop you like such as shopping, shoes, etc.; but, you can also add more subjective keywords such as my favorite brand, good materials, colourful collection. Keywords help us and others find your review. So each time you write something, you can tag it with a couple of words that relate to the topic. For example, if you review a Mexican restaurant, tag it: Mexican restaurant, and anything else you can think of. Separate each tag with a comma. If you want to remove a certain keyword you have added, just click on the 'edit review' link.

return to top

What is a good comment, and what is allowed?
For comments we have the same Mini-Guideline as for reviews. Comments may be used to tell someone you agree with them or thank a user for sharing their experience. Don't threaten others, use offensive language or start name-calling. You can comment on the content, not the person.

return to top

Photos and videos

How do I add a photo to a service/business?
On any place page you will find an “add media” link. Simply browse to the location of the file on your computer or add a link to the url of your photo and click the "Save" button.

return to top

How do I add a picture to my profile?
Go to Your (public) profile page and you can upload a profile picture there.

return to top

This is similar to adding a picture. The only difference is that for video we only accept You Tube links, it is not possible to browse for a video and upload that on our site.

return to top

What kind of pictures & videos can I upload (is allowed)?
You can add any photo, as long as it's not copyright protected or offensive. Just make sure the pictures and videos are relevant to the page / listing.

Mini-Mini-Guides

What exactly is a Mini-Guide?
We all have lists of our favorite places in mind; whether it's your favourite restaurants in a certain town, the best pubs nearby your home, etc. In a Mini-Guide you can store and organise that information for you to see and even share with others.

return to top

How do I create a good Mini-Guide?
A Mini-Guide is a collection of different places on SaySo that you have bundled together with a common theme. For example you might want to create a Mini-Guide for:
  • Wedding Dress shopping in Ireland
  • Pubs that brew their own beer
  • A flying visit to Dublin
  • Or anything else you've discovered lots about
  • In fact we challenge you to come up with unique and interesting Mini-Guides! If you see someone else's Mini-Guide and want to add something or just want to share your thoughts, feel free to comment. After all, two heads are better than one.

return to top

Where are the Mini-Guides displayed?
You can find an overview of all the existing Mini-Guides (that contain at least 2 listings) on our 'Mini-Guide overview' page. All Mini-Guides created by other SaySo users are public, so you can check them out if you need inspiration to plan a day trip to a city you are less familiar with. Why is my Mini-Guide not visible to other users? If your Mini-Guide contains less then two listings we will not make it public, and you are the only one who can see it. You must add at least two places to make sure everybody can see/find your Mini-Guide.

Being a fan of a place or following it, what is the difference?
By being a fan you express that you really like and recommend the place to everyone. It is also a good way to see if a place is worth checking out – the more people who love it, the better it must be, right? Then you know – if you go there – you'll find people who think like you.
